I loved Pigeons from Hell (including the television adaptation, on Hitchcock Presents, I think). But I sadly disappointed and disgusted in the other stories, which are fueled by racist fears, racist stereotypes, and xenophobia. Indeed, anyone who finds these other stories to be scary or creepy, ought to take a serious and critical look at themselves.

“In context for the time it was written”, i.e. the 1930s when slavery was long dead. Only a few writers were so vocal about their racism. To say it was prevalent in writings of the time is to revise history. I’m sorry if some of your favorite writers were racists, saying everyone else’s were too doesn’t hold water. It simply is not so.
